The Twilight saga – Stephanie Meyer

9 January, 2009

Yes, it has just been released in SA as a movie… no I had not heard about it before… But seriously, give me anything with a vampire, werewolves, witches and such, and I will investigate and read it…

Monkey and I went and watched the movie just before Christmas and I really enjoyed it. I went not knowing anything about it and I loved it. It was a bit of an arty farty movie so I’m not sure that Monkey really enjoyed it, but I reckon he did.

The Sunday after Christmas we happened to find ourselves in a bookshop – one that had all four of the books (Twilight, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn and New moon – not necessarily in that order…). We bought them… and then, for three days I simply devoured them. I couldn’t stop reading.

Its a beautiful love story, with an entertaining ending – I’m one of those people who wants to know about the happily ever after, I always want a book to find out about the rest of their lives… and then how they die (The Notebook was a perfect read for me…). Because only on death does the story end… but no. The story often leaves just the particular situation resolved..

The twilight saga was really really easy to read, had great characters, which oddly enough I pictured very differently to how they were portrayed in the movie. I just want to go and read them all again… but I reckon I might wait a year, and then take them slow, read one at a time… not all 4 in just a few days…

The thing about this book, about any really good book? I can not only relate to the characters, but in some instances I become them. I fantasize about what my life would be like if I were a character in that book… and for a few hours, I am that character… I mean seriously, who doesn’t want to be Bella Swan and fall in love with not only a vampire, but a werewolf – and know without a doubt that you are safe from harm because these creatures are always looking out for you…

And the love stories? Well…. even though I am most content and loved in my relationship… Its as though I get to experience it all again through books… It is my world, my place… my time.

Avid Reader

8 January, 2009

I do and always have just absolutely love reading! I can and sometimes do sit and read for days… not hours, days. It is the most theuraputic thing on the planet!

I thought I would tell you what I am reading, or almost give a book review after each book I finish. But perhaps a background of the types of books I enjoy reading would be a good place to start…

I love fiction. Autobiographies and that just aren’t really my scene – unless told in a story… This being said, I am enjoying reading blogs on a regular basis – there are a few which I regularly read and visit…

I love thriller / horror type stuff. Anything to do with vampires, werewolves, the “other” realm. Some of my favourite authors in this genre are:

  1. Dean Koontz,
  2. Stephen King
  3. Anne Rice
  4. Stephanie Meyer (she wrote the twilight series – really fantastic books! 4 of them… read them all in three days over the last few weeks… loved them!)
  5. Robin Cook
  6. John Grisham (more law type stuff then thriller/horror)

Then of course there are the “chick books”, Marion Keyes is very entertaining and has been known to make me both cry and laugh out loud.

Harry Potter was great (JK Rowling). I loved the Hobbit, but haven’t been able to get my head into reading Lord of the Rings. Almost sacrilege I know…

As a youngster I love Roald Dahl. Still have some of his books on my bookshelves…

And then I look at my other half… In over 3 years I have never seen him pick up a book… so for Christmas I bought him the new Bourne book (The Bourne Sanction I think its called), and well, its the 8th of the month and he’s finished the prologue and he ready to read chapter 1. We both laugh about it… I’m not sure if he will ever actually read it… And, if he doesn’t its ok. I’ll probably then pick it up and tell him what happened…

So… If you have a book you really loved, let me know about it… and I will try and get my paws on it and take a read!
